We are working on solving for the missing partner (yes... Algebra in kindergarten). The students are really getting the hang of it!! This week we worked in small groups and with partners to explore strategies to solve for the missing partner/addend. Check out these picture and click on the link below to watch a video that explains how we use Math Mountains as a strategy.

A Lesson in Being a Good Sport!!
Today I shared some stories with the children about some of my failures. I want them to know that I try many things... sometimes I fail but because I never give up sometimes I succeed as well!! I hope your child learned today that trying, perseverance, and even failing sometimes are all things great leaders have in common!! We had a lot of fun!!

We're so excited!!!!
Today we were blessed to receive 30 iPads for our classroom!! We are so excited to begin using them to research information, utilize as a part of Daily 5 literacy instruction, and so much more!! I will be collaborating with our technology specialist from the county to develop lesson plans to maximize the use of these amazing learning tools!! Please discuss the importance of taking good care of these iPads with your child! I will be sending home an agreement for you and your child to sign. We are so grateful for these tools and we want them to be taken care of so they can provide benefits for years to come!! Thanks so much!!

Leadership Day 2016!!!
What a wonderful day!! On this day the students at Green Elementary SHINE!! They get to show off their leadership skills and our awesome school community!! It was a great success!! To celebrate this day we collaborated in small teams to work on writing a "How To" story about HOW TO EAT AN OREO COOKIE!!! Yummy!! Of course we started by eating an Oreo cookie... you know, for research's sake!! We then brainstormed the steps we took to eat our cookie. In teams of four students, they worked together, each with specific leadership roles and reponsibilities. Each team had a writer, two artists, and a reporter. The process and the products were stunning!! Take a peek at some of our fun moments in leadership!!

Life's Sweetest Moments
I caught these sweet moments this afternoon!! We have worked so hard this week learning so many things... Addition/subtraction 1-10, writing "How to" books, learning about families, learning what it means to use self-control... But as I watched the children interact on the playground today I realized they learned more than I had on my lesson plan!! These sweet souls learned about friendship, they learned how to appreciate each other for their unique gifts, and to savor each moment we have together... I think I may have learned just as much!! Have a great weekend everyone!!!
